According to USCIS
- Form I-944, “Declaration of Self-Sufficiency” is used by an individual to demonstrate that he or she is not inadmissible based on the public charge ground (Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) section 212(a)(4)). In other words, the form is used by Green Card applicants to provide information about their financial situation.
- If you file the form I-485, Adjustment of Status, you should submit Form I-944 to USCIS.
- If you are exempt from the Public charge ground of inadmissibility as per criteria setup by USCIS, you do not need to file Form I-944.
General Information
- Each declaration/form must be properly signed and filed.
- USCIS will accept a photocopied, faxed, or scanned copy of the original, handwritten signature valid for filing purposes.
- The petitioner should submit all the evidence and supporting documentation at the time of filing as listed in the What Evidence Must You Submit and Specific Instructions sections of I-944 Instructions.
- USCIS instructions and guidelines. (What Evidence Must You Submit and Specific Instructions).
- The petitioner should submit the legible photocopies of documents requested unless it is stated by USCIS to submit an original document.
- Translations. The petitioner should submit a full English translation if the document is present in a foreign language.
Supporting Evidences
If you will be submitting the same documentation (such as tax return transcripts or birth certifications) for the I-485 to USCIS, you do not need to submit the documentation multiple times.
